Patriotic Punch

I am always on the search for a new drink or punch recipe. Especially one that is as pretty as this one. The only problem I had with this was that my star cookie cutter was too big for my little apples. It is amazing how hard it is to actually draw a star and get it right. After several tries I got it down and then used the first correct apple as a guide. If you want to skip the star apples, just using a apple slice will still give you the red, white, and blue effect. I liked using the frozen berries as it kept it cold without adding ice and watering it down.

This would make a great addition to your July 4th festivities.

Patriotic Punch
1 bottle of apple juice
1 two liter bottle of Sprite
1-2 cups of frozen strawberries
1 cup frozen blueberries
2 apples, sliced into 1 1/2" thick rounds.

Cut star shapes into your apples. I had a cookie cutter shape but it was too big. I had to draw out a star and free hand cutting the apple. My apples were smaller than I thought.
With your apple stars cut, add frozen strawberries to the bottom of you pitcher, and cover with juice and sprite (in equal parts).
Next, add your apple stars in on top of the strawberries. You'll want to line them around the sides of the pitcher so you can see them as a middle layer.
Next, fill it up with more juice and sprite.
Add frozen blueberries on top as a floating layer, and serve!
To make this an adult version, add a bottle of wine, or some tequila, vodka or rum. Just be warned- fruit soaks up alcohol.

This recipe was shared in a recent issue of Chesapeake Style Magazine in my Served Up with Style food column.
